We Are Not Slaves To Our Fears – Romans 8:15
This week’s verse is Romans 8:15, an extremely powerful verse for anyone facing a challenge or fear.
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
The Spirit of Slaves
Without Jesus (God), and his death on the cross for our sins, the Bible describes that man is a “slave” to sin and fear. This is because there is a deep rooted sin nature within the human race. This nature makes man fallible and corrupt. If a man has a conscience and has not accepted Christ as his or her Savior, this leaves them with a spirit of bondage, or slavery. A life that is lived in fear of punishment and a constant never ending “what if”. A life that faces challenges and fears with the attitude and spirit of a slave. There is no firm foundation in which to place their existence except by mere coincidence and confidence in themselves alone.
The Spirit of Sonship
When a person accepts Jesus as their Savior, that person is adopted into God’s family as His son or daughter. If you are a parent, you’ve experienced the cries of a young child that was in fear, in hunger, in danger, in need. You have watched as your child grows, learns, struggles, adapts, succeeds, and changes. This is how it is for us who are Christians.
We have a spirit of God’s child. We have the Holy Spirit living in us, we have Jesus interceding for us and walking with us, and we have access to the one true all-powerful, omnipotent God who loves us has His very own. This allows us to reach out to Him, our constant help, strength, power and companion. His friendship and love is unparalleled in strength and enormity by any other relationship in our lives.
Change Your Life
If you are blessed enough to have accepted Christ as your Savior like me, then you too have the necessary power and freedom to live a life that is based on truth, assurance, and the solid foundation of God’s never changing character, and everlasting promises. The fears, whatever they may be for you, are NOT what dictate your life because God reminds us in Romans 8:15 that we don’t have to listen to lies and fears. God offers us consistency and 100% assurance with Him. That’s something no man can offer himself or another.
If you have not accepted God’s free gift of salvation, what are you waiting for? Please feel free to contact me if this is you. I would love to tell you some great life-changing information.
